Upon moving to Question Mark, Ohio the investigation into the mysterious disappearing Ames Rifle factory and its dark past began in earnest. And this search started, as so many wayward journeys do, at a motel.
A number of witnesses and investigators have reported seeing a floating ghost factory near the Question Mark Motel during the month of October, which was when the original factory burned down.
Interviewed one of the owners but he claimed to know nothing about the factory of the fire. Suspicious?
In the motel parking lot, Iris and I found trash and a flyer for the Question Mark Car Wash. Could it be a clue?
Although many ghosts are on hand at the Question Mark Car Wash, none of them are real. Interviewed several teen workers but none seemed knowledgeable about the ghost factory.
One, dressed as Neil Armstrong, named Mike seemed pretty high. Kept giggling, saying I should check out where the yarn factory fell into the sinkhole. Said he and his friends had seen a factory floating over there. Then he began laughing again. A new possibility?
Climbed several feet underground and got caught in piles of yarn. No sign of the ghost factory anywhere. Wondered what life choices led me to this? Other people face loss in such different ways. Saw a flash of light. Decided it was the wrong time for self-introspection.
After re-emerging from the yarn, for a second I thought I saw factory smokestacks appear somewhere in the distant vicinity of the near seemingly-endless garbage dump. Got back in the camper and drove.
Although filled with many strange interesting items, no sign of ghost factory. A garbage bag fell from a pile and rolled to my feet. Clue? Opened garbage bag and found several used prophylactics. Not what I was looking for.
There are stories of owners from Ames Rifle burying remains of child workers somewhere in town. Must find where that might be. Must get Iris more involved. Must try to get to work on time tomorrow.
